World Environment Day

On World Environment Day, we are highlighting the vital role agriculture plays in caring for our planet. Nearly half of all habitable land is used for farming, motivating our support for sustainable agriculture that enhances biodiversity, conserves water, reduces pollution, and nourishes the soil. A decade ago, we launched our "Rooted in Nature" programme to promote sustainably and locally sourced food and beverages, which now spans 94 hotels worldwide. Through this initiative, our F&B teams source ingredients from local and environmentally responsible producers. We also encourage hotels to set up on-site Chef's Farms, hydroponic systems and bee farms. These support allow us to grow indigenous herbs and veggies, creating delicious seasonal dishes and supporting the local ecosystem. For example, Shangri-La Yangon team visited Hermon Organic Garden to learn about agri-based technology, permaculture, natural compost, and vermiculture, as shared by the owner of Hermon Farm. Additionally, we planted long-term trees around the premises of Shangri-La Serviced Apartments, Yangon to promote environmental care. We're committed to nature-friendly agriculture that allows our guests to savour safe, healthy, delicious, and sustainable cuisine. On this #WorldEnvironmentDay, we invite you to consider how your food choices can benefit the planet. Join us in our mission to protect our Earth through eco-conscious dining! #ShangriLa #shangrilahotels #SuleShangriLa #SuleSquareMall #ShangriLaServicedApartments #shangrilacircle #DoGood #WorldEnvironmentDay #Savour #sustainablilty #ESG

International Plastic Bag Free Day

Did you know that a staggering five trillion plastic bags are produced and often quickly discarded each year, causing immense harm to our environment? At Shangri-La, we're committed to making a difference by reducing our use of single-use plastics. In 2023, we achieved a remarkable 41% reduction in single-use plastics per room night compared to our 2019 baseline. We're proud of this accomplishment and invite you to learn more about our sustainability achievements in 2023: https://sitecore-cd.shangri-la.com/-/media/Project/Shangri-La-Group/Sustainability/Images/Sustainability-Report/2023_SustainabilityReport.pdf Join us on International Plastic Bag Free Day (3 July) as we take a stand against plastic pollution! We're taking concrete steps across our hotels to eliminate disposable plastics. For instance, we're transitioning installing filtered water taps in guest rooms, or providing filtered water in reusable or recyclable bottles. We've also bid farewell to fully plastic takeaway containers, cutlery, and straws, replacing them with sustainable alternatives. Our passionate colleagues are driving change too! Beach cleans and litter picks are regular activities at our hotels to keep plastics out of local ecosystems and protect our seafronts. For example, the Shangri-La Bosphorus in Istanbul collected plastic bottle caps and exchanged them for funds to purchase wheelchairs for individuals with spinal cord injuries. Let's find ways to reduce single-use plastics! Together, we can make a difference and create a more sustainable world. #shangrila #shangrilahotels #SuleShangriLa #SuleSquareMall #ShangriLaServicedApartments #ESG #DoGood #InternationalPlasticBagFreeDay #Sustainablilty #Stay
